At a glance
  • Use the authority’s exact activity wording.
  • Choose for planned revenue, not a vague umbrella description.
  • Check compatibility when combining multiple activities.
01

Start with actual transactions

List each product or service, customer type, delivery method and sales channel. Translate those transactions into the licensing authority’s approved activity list rather than relying on a marketing label.

  • Who pays the company?
  • What appears on invoices?
  • Will products be imported or stored?
  • Is advice, brokerage or client money involved?
02

Test approvals and restrictions

Activities in finance, health, education, food, transport, media and other regulated sectors can require additional approvals. The legal form and facility must also be compatible with the activity.

  • External regulator approval
  • Qualification or experience evidence
  • Minimum office or facility standard
  • Permitted ownership and manager conditions
03

Avoid expensive amendments

An activity that is too narrow can block invoicing or banking; one that is unnecessarily regulated can add time and cost. Validate the wording before reserving the trade name and signing a lease.
